The 4x4 Debate
Jeeps,
SUVs, 4x4s and “Chelsea
tractors”. Whatever you call them, these large vehicles have become the subject
of fierce debate in the United
Kingdom and elsewhere: should they be banned
from city centres?
Some
people claim that these larger vehicles are unsuited to city driving: they
cause congestion and make life difficult for pedestrians and cyclists. Even
jeep drivers themselves may find it difficult to park and to navigate city
streets. However, more serious is the charge that SUVs cause accidents. These
vehicles, statistics show, are involved in 25% more accidents than other cars.
This may be because they block narrow streets, restricting the view of other
road users. In addition, they are heavier and have an elevated centre of
gravity, making them more difficult to maneuver, especially in urban areas.
Supporters
of a ban also stress ecological factors: SUVs are a larger drain on oil
resources because they use more fuel than smaller cars do. They also cause more
air pollution and contribute to global warming, since they produce more carbon
dioxide. Therefore, the argument goes, these vehicles should be restricted to
rural areas only, where unpaved roads and similar driving hazards justify their
use.
However,
opponents of a ban also present strong arguments. First, they say that all cars
pollute, and that singling out SUVs is unfair. Second, they claim that owners
of 4x4s tend to take good care of their vehicles and so can use them for
longer. This means a reduction in the number of new cars which are
manufactured, a process that itself requires massive amounts of energy.
They add that many jeep owners belong to automobile clubs that provide support
to emergency services; their vehicles may be volunteered for use when, for
example, a search and rescue mission is undertaken in bad weather. But above
all, they worry that a ban would seriously affect people’s freedom of choice,
an important right in a democracy.
So,
should these cars be banned, or not? Until the matter is decided one way or
another, surely every driver should think carefully about whether the use of
such a car is justified for a particular place at a particular time.
The jeeps are polemic vehicles, so they are very annoying because of their size or their big pollution. It’s true that they are good to go on difficult roads and dangerous pieces of land. Personally, I don’t like these vehicles, I think that they are too big and too dangerous.
ResponderEliminarHowever, I have to recognize that they are very practical in order to go on mountain zones or zones with unpaved roads, nevertheless if they are only good for this I think that they have been banned in cities, well they mustn’t circulate through the streets of a city or of a town. Maybe their use is reduced to areas which are out of the urban zones.
In conclusion, I think that they only have to be banned in urban zones but they can be used in difficult zones which usually are out of cities. I think that this is the best solution for everybody.
The 4x4 vehicles are very polemic transports, because these vehicles are very large and wide, thing that create urban problems or other types of problems in a city. These cars are created in order to can travel for the mountain or different terrains that not are asphalt, for instance the Safaris' car or the forest's car are a Jeep. Moreover, Jeeps to be as larges pollute and consume twice.
ResponderEliminarSo, I think that these cars mustn't be banned, because a person who live in the outside of the city and this person has a jeep, if he had an emergency, he couldn't go to the city.
Namely, I think that the 4x4 cars may be banned in perspective in order to avoid exceptions like this.
Not all people think the same of 4x4s, they have advantages but also disadvantages. All know that this type of car is very big and there are not easy to drive. These cars are used for mountain tourism. In addition, they are typical for safaris. Normally, the people that work in mountains or in places that snows have jeeps because they have special tires that they are stronger and taller than the other cars tires. For this reason, I think that 4x4s should be prohibited in cities because there are very dangerous and they make more difficult the circulation of the others cars but out of cities they can be used.
ResponderEliminarThe jeeps are very problematic and dangerous vehicles because of his size and his power. These cars are created to go through mountain zones, because of the structure of the car is a little bit excessive, so if a person buys herself this car because he likes to go very much through mountains he is not going to be able to go to the city and it is not fair. This means a person is being obliged to buy another car, and this is a thing that no a lot of people can allow. In conclusion, to prohibit these cars in the city seems to me excessive, but I believe that it might be prohibited in urban zones with parks or familiar zones to avoid accidents.
ResponderEliminarEach driver has his or her own necessities and priorities and because of that, they must think carefully while they decide which car to buy. Their lifestyle, habits, their domestic economy and how ecological they are would be deciding facts in anyone’s decision.
ResponderEliminarWhat we are mainly concerned with here is whether big cars should be or not banned. As the text clarifies, they have many disadvantages as pollution or the fact that they could be a problem for other drivers, nevertheless they have turned out really useful work tools in lots of different jobs and for several families. That is why I find too late the decision of a banning. People are used to this kind of vehicle and in order to make them viable for the circulation, it would be a good choice to pronounce new laws in which car factories must follow an improved pattern of fabrication. This would be a solution for many of the problems that this sort of car presents.
Clearly, the Jeep's have always been problematic and difficult car when driving, but it can’t be attributed with a large number of accidents behind him because that fact depends on the driver to take that car. Of course they consume a large number of gas and pollute more than other car, but as the defenders of these cars say: 'Why can’t have the car they want as the rest?' It is unfair to them.
ResponderEliminarSo I think that 4x4 drivers should be more careful when driving as it can be annoying to pedestrians or other drivers, but they have the same right as others to follow in trade.
